Mosaic Advocacy
Mosaic Advocacy provides free support and mentor services for parents working through their service plans with Child Protective Services while their children are in foster care. We support family preservation in underserved populations and address root causes of socioeconomic barriers in our communities in two ways.
• Much of our clientele faces systemic and economic hurdles (implicit biases, poverty, lack of education, unemployment, homelessness, dependency/addiction, childhood experience in foster care, surviving trafficking and lack of safe/healthy networks of support). Parents who have traumatic pasts experience barriers as adults to healthy and safe parenting. Connecting these parents with mentors who have walked their journey can give parents the tools they need to change their circumstances.
• Parents who have reunified with their children after CPS removal will have child welfare involvement and may also have criminal history that will show up on a background check. This creates barriers to the workforce and access to traditional, full-time jobs with benefits. Our program gives these parents a chance to use their lived experiences to create change in their communities, re envision their own futures and grow professionally.
Our goals
• Increase the reunification rate in Texas
• Decrease the time children spend in foster care
• Reduce the risk of reentry into foster care
Our mission
To empower parents and give them the tools to revamp their own storylines and change the narrative that society has created for them. We want to enable parents to ask for and find support in whatever scope they need to raise their children differently, parent in a new capacity and eliminate the need for child welfare authority involvement in the future. We aim to reunify more children with their biological caretakers and decrease the amount of time children spend in foster care.
